I’m not sure how, but summer has become the busiest time of the year. Maybe it has been for you as well. I’ve come to realize that Mondays are just that day that I shift from home-work to work-work. And Fridays mean I shift back again. Nothing ever stops spinning, nothing stays fed, nothing stays clean, nothing stays full or empty, nothing stays done.
Maybe it’s the endless-ness or the monotony of it that’s got me today. It’s hard to focus on “big pictures” or tiny details when life spins as it does and we only work at maintaining its parts instead of being in control of its movements or in awe of its beauty. It’s another alarm clock, hungry mouths, messy hair, traffic jams, phone calls, emails, appointments, another load of laundry, another diaper, another dinner, another mess, and it spins on.
Today, find one thing beautiful, intricate, funny and hang on to it. Snap a picture of it and refer to it often. Life is too short to just get caught in the spin.
Take a walk
Hold a hand
Kiss a cheek
Throw a ball
Close your eyes while listening to a voice you love.
Listen to a song that makes you smile.
Breathe deep, in and out, while thinking of nothing.
Do it now because who knows what will happen in the rest of your day.
Look back and appreciate where you’ve come from, where you are going, and who is going with you. Reflect as you breath and give thanks that it is.
Maintain a good attitude.
Choose your reactions.
Keep your eyes on your goal.
And schedule a time to breathe, to stand in awe of something, even if so tiny as a nose full of freckles.
